Crownhold Resources, Ranked by Gates

Which number is actually blocking the next expansion, harbor deal, or prestige.

Crownhold Resource Priority

Crownhold looks like a gold clicker and then quietly becomes an eight-currency puzzle. This page ranks those currencies by how often they gate progress in the documented opening. Pair it with buildings (where currencies are made) and the early-game build (who makes them). How to Play is the loop; this is the HUD.

Gold

Gold is always on the expansion invoice. Sources: keep clicks, peasants, Royal Coin Collector, gold mines, scholars’ crown cut, some country gold trades. Priority is high until idle gold is “silly,” then it drops behind whatever the next bill actually is. Do not prestige for more gold if wood is the stall — see prestige unlocks.

Population

Population is the worker pool, not a score. Spend it. Empty population while workplaces need staff is a misread of the HUD. Costs rise; buy in batches that still leave gold for the current upgrade. Villages add capacity. The 60-peasant prestige node cares about committed staff on a building, not the global total alone.

Knowledge

Knowledge is the silent gate for Crop Rotation, library, forestry unlocks, and many “discover this technique” buttons. Scribes and scholars produce it; the university can be clicked for a bump. If you have mountains of gold and cannot unlock wood, you are knowledge-starved, not poor.

Stone

Stone comes from laborers, then quarries. It buys gold mines, villages, royal court, pier expansions. Mid-run stone bills jump by orders of magnitude. Stop cosmetic villages when the court or pier is the real spend. Reinforced Tools is the knowledge-to-stone converter.

Wood

Wood arrives late and immediately becomes the harbor’s favorite tax. Forestry ranks, more laborers, Emerald Coast-style wood deals, and wood prestige nodes are the fixes. Rural Mills compete with wood sinks; read the cost before you click. Trade and exploration is where wood pain is loudest.

Discovery and trade power

Discovery is spent on the world map. Trade power is spent on country deals. Expedition ships versus trade ships is the production split. Navigation and pier upgrades are the multipliers. Clicking the port for crumbs is usually a trap.

Influence

Influence stays near zero until hegemony exists. Court upgrades that multiply influence are wasted before countries. After two hegemonies, influence becomes a real spend. Do not confuse it with prestige points — different resource, different screen.

Prestige points

Earned by playing, spent in the book. Not produced by a workplace. How to prestige is the manual.

Watch the current expansion banner. It tells you which two resources matter this minute. Everything else is setup. The walkthrough names typical banner pairs (gold+stone, gold+wood). Launch notes if you still think the game is unreleased.

Reading the HUD without drowning

You do not need all eight numbers in working memory. You need the two on the banner, plus whichever workplace is empty. If peasants are in service and gold is climbing, stop watching gold. Watch stone or knowledge instead. If discovery is climbing and you have no unspent points, stop buying expedition ships and go fill a country deal with trade power.

A useful habit: after every expansion, screenshot or glance at the full resource row once. If a currency is at zero with no producer staffed, that is the emergency, not the pretty castle. Buildings tells you which panel creates which number. How to prestige is not a resource fix — resetting because you ignored scribes just repeats the zero.

Compounding bonuses (Secrets of the Realm style gold percent in some recordings) can make gold look solved while wood is still a trickle. Trust the banner over the largest number on screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Crownhold questions.

Which resource should I never dump?

Knowledge, until forestry and crop rotation are online. Gold can be regenerated; those unlocks cannot be skipped.

Is influence the same as prestige?

No. Influence is court/diplomacy. Prestige is the reset currency.

Why is wood slower than stone?

Wood harvesting is a later research. Laborers start as stone workers. Rank forestry and staff the guild.
