Crownhold System Requirements
A 200 MB kingdom: Windows 10, Linux/SteamOS, light CPU, and the accessibility flags Steam actually lists.
Crownhold is a short incremental, and the store hardware list matches that pitch. This page copies the minimum Steam published for app 4579940 and then translates it into player questions: Windows versus Linux, Steam Deck, mouse versus gamepad, Cloud, and what “playable at your own pace” actually means. Buy-side mood lives on the review. Crash-shaped questions live on troubleshooting. Store links live on Links.
Windows minimum (Steam)
- OS: Windows 10
- Processor: 2.5 GHz dual core
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: 512 MB
- Storage: 200 MB available space
There is no published Recommended line on the snapshot we used. If your machine clears those five bullets, you are inside the developer’s envelope. Pixel maps and hover panels are the load, not a 3D siege sandbox. Stutter and frame drops still showed up in a minority of launch-week notes — that is a driver or overlay problem more often than a missing RTX card. Turn off scrolling menu backgrounds after v1.0.1 if the title screen is the thing that hurts. Details in troubleshooting.
Linux / SteamOS
Steam lists a Linux build with the same processor, memory, graphics, and storage line. There is no macOS row. Do not buy expecting a native Mac client. Proton can be a community experiment; this wiki will not publish unofficial Mac install steps.
Steam Deck sits on that Linux line. Official Deck compatibility on third-party scrapes was still “unknown” close to launch, while player summaries after 17 August often said it runs well, with the usual caveat that hover-heavy UIs prefer a mouse. Partial controller support and a still-beta gamepad mode (from demo v0.8.3 notes) mean: expect to click, not to play it like a twin-stick. Camera Comfort and adjustable text help on a small screen. Controls is the hover-box manual.
Input, saves, accessibility
Steam’s feature list for Crownhold is more honest than most idle pages:
- Single-player only. No shared session. Launch notes stay aligned with that.
- Steam Cloud and save anytime.
- Family Sharing.
- Mouse-only option, plus partial controller support.
- Adjustable text size, custom volume, camera comfort, stereo sound.
- Playable without timed input, and playable at your own pace — except decrees still show a timer. That timer is pacing. Skipping it used to stall; v1.0.1 Hotfix fixed that. See decrees.
Languages with full audio are English and German. There is no Simplified Chinese or Russian client. First-launch language selection arrived in demo v0.8.3; a locale-migration bug that auto-confirmed language for old saves was patched there too.
What this is not
It is not a 20 GB strategy suite. It is not a live-service that needs a constant patch pipe — but launch week still shipped v1.0.1, a hotfix, v1.0.2, and an 18 August endgame improvements post. Those are small stability and tooltip patches, not a new campaign installer. Your 200 MB folder should not balloon.
No paid DLC was required at launch. Steam’s API listed demo app 4748760 beside the retail ID; that is the demo, not a siege expansion pack. Play the retail build if you own it. Demo vs full covers the teaching wall at expansion 6.
If you are shopping on a six-year-old laptop, you are the audience. If you need ray-traced walls, you are in the wrong store tab — and possibly on the other Crownhold, the Meridian Studios tower defense. Confirm Tobias Mikula and app 4579940 before you measure VRAM.
After the spec check, the useful pages are Getting Started, how to play, and how to prestige. Hardware will not prestige for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Crownhold questions.
Does Crownhold run on macOS?
Steam lists Windows and Linux only. There is no official Mac row on the store snapshot this wiki used.
How big is the install?
About 200 MB. That is the Steam storage line, not a guess.
Is a gamepad enough?
Only partial support. Hover panels are the game. Plan on a mouse, even on Deck.
Do I need a high-end GPU?
No. Steam’s graphics line is 512 MB. If menus stutter, disable scrolling backgrounds in v1.0.1 settings.
